In December, my family and I were on our way to a relative's home in Iowa, USA for the holidays. Along the way we stopped at a hotel in Kansas City, Missouri, USA to sightsee and visit with my cousins. Unfortunately, my children became terribly sick.
Both of them had had colds that were nearly gone right before we left our home. Within days on our trip, a horrible cough developed in both of them. The kind of cough that sounds what I call the "mommy alarm." I knew that something wasn't right. They were nearly choking from the phlegm that they were coughing up.
Not knowing pediatricians in Kansas City, I called a local LLL Leader who was able to tell me a few different pediatricians that she knew of. One of them was willing to see my children immediately. He listened to Grace's lungs and said she definitely had pneumonia, but luckily we caught it early. Ben's lungs were clear, but he had a double ear infection. They were both given antibiotics.
We decided to stay in Kansas City a while longer so the children could rest and be well enough to travel to Iowa. We just had to take it day by day.
I'm so grateful for LLL. I felt much more comfortable calling an LLL Leader I didn't know instead of looking through the phonebook for pediatricians. I value LLL as a resource of support and trust.
