Babies and children are everywhere at La Leche League International Conferences! Babies quietly breastfeed in their mothers' arms; children play in the playroom; teens socialize in the Teen Lounge. There's something for every member of the family.
Young breastfeeding babies are usually content on their mother's lap. When mother or baby need some peace and quiet, they can retreat to their hotel room or to the Rock and Rest Room for some quiet time.
As the little ones become older, but perhaps not old enough to be without mother for very long, keeping them entertained becomes more of a challenge. Experienced mothers have found that a little preparation goes a long way toward avoiding potential problems. They often prepare an activity bag, which they may vary from day to day to prevent boredom. For an older preschooler, it might include such things as art supplies, small toys, books, a deck of cards, or magnetic boards and games. Snacks are also a good idea. And remember, if the child still becomes restless and you both need a break, there will be a Conference Playroom where there is room for little ones to run off some steam.
Some mothers decide to bring along an extra caregiver, such as an older sibling (13 or older), Dad, or a grandparent, who can spend time in the Conference Playroom with the younger members of the family. The Playroom is different from Conference to Conference, but is usually met with rave reviews. It is often divided into sections for large motor play, dress up, crafts, and more.
Teens older than 13 find the Teen Lounge to be a wonderful place not only to participate in games, but also to meet new friends from around the world.
The World's Faire is a not
only a round-the-world bazaar, but also a lively place for family entertainment.
Activities for children of all ages are offered and children love having
their "passport" stamped at every booth. It is a wonderful
chance to meet families from around the globe.
In your Conference registration materials there is information about various children's activities such as Chance to Dance. Chance to Dance provides children from five through teens an opportunity to become part of the Conference and have fun, too. Be sure to look in your Conference registration materials for additional information on exciting activities for children at the La Leche League Conference to be held July 3-6, 2003, San Francisco, California, USA.
